Lent 2023

Before the Easter dawn there is a time of preparation and waiting. During this season of Lent we would encourage you to take the next six weeks as a time to live with both the death and the resurrection that Lent and Easter afford us.

Shrove Tuesday (21 February) 3pm

Pop into church for a pancake!

Ash Wednesday (22nd February) services

No service at St Philips, but there are services at:

All Saints Church, Barwick: Holy Communion at 10.30am

St Peter's Church Thorner: Holy Communion at 8pm

Dust and Glory, A Lent Journey of Faith, Failure and Forgiveness

'Dust and Glory' is the Church of England’s Lent theme for 2023.

Using either the booklet or the digital app (for iOS and Android), we are invited to explore, through 40 daily reflections how we can live well with the mess of everyday life.

'Dust and Glory' encourages us to take a fresh look at the frustrations and failings that every day brings and, rather than pretending we can always avoid them, seek to learn from them and grow closer to God through them.

You can also sign up for the Church of England's free daily Lent reflection emails (except Sundays) straight to your inbox from Ash Wednesday (22 February) to Easter Day (9 April).
